What is this medicine for It is used to lower high phosphate levels in certain kidney conditions. It is used to treat heartburn, upset stomach and indigestion. How does it work It is an antacid that lowers stomach acid. Aluminum binds phosphate in the GI (gastrointestinal) tract and prevents absorption. How should this medicine be used Take 1 to 3 hours after meals as an antacid. Drink lots of non caffeine liquids unless told to drink less liquid by your doctor. Common side effects of this medicine Bad taste in your mouth. Hard stools (constipation). What do I do if I miss a dose Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it. - If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. - Many times this drug is taken on an as needed basis.
